Dawood Bacha "meat balls stew"

Dawood basha: This dish is a pleasant one that can be prepared in no time for a quick meal. It varies from place to place all over the Middle East. It is a dish of meatballs cooked with tomato sauce and onion wings flavored with my special spices and sweet nutty taste of pine nuts.

Prep. time: 25 mins

Cooking time: 20 mins

Serves: 4

INGREDIENTS: Meatballs: 500 grams of ground beef or mixed with lamb as desired

1 tsp salt

1 medium onion grated

1/2 tsp allspice

1/4 tsp cinnamon

A dash of black pepper

The sauce:

2 tbsp oil

2 medium onions cut wings

4 tomatoes peeled and chopped or diced

1 tsp salt

1 tbsp tomato paste

1/4 tsp allspice

1/2 tsp paprika spice

1/4 cup pine nuts

100 grams fresh mushrooms if desired

PREPARATION: in a bowl mix well the meat with the grated onion, salt and pepper. Wet your hands using a small bowl of cold water handy, roll each ball between the palms of your hand the size of a walnut until you finish them all. Set aside on a tray covered with a plastic sheet or cling film paper. Heat the oil in a large deep pan and roast the pine nuts until golden then set aside. Add the meat balls and stir fry over medium to low heat, turning them continuously until done and brown. Remove the meatballs with a slotted spoon and set aside on a kitchen absorbent paper. Fry the onions until translucent, add the tomatoes and let it simmer for 5 mins, add the meatballs, the salt, the spices and finally one and a half cup of water mixed with the tomato paste. If you want to add mushrooms slice and stir fry with a bit of oil until done. Now combine all the ingredients together, cover the pot then let it simmer for another 5 to 7 mins, sprinkle the pine nuts on top . Serve vermicelli rice or plain rice on the side as you desire. For vermicelli rice I have it already in my blog in many recipes that have rice as a side dish. It is easy to make, quick to prepare and popular. Kids will love it especially when it comes to meatballs.

Enjoy !!!
