Ima soup

Shorbet el Ima or Ima soup: Ima soup is one of the pleasant and simplest recipe a person can do and at the same time it is delicious, heart warming and is suitable for cold winter days. This recipe has many spices in addition of the parsley to enhance the soup’s flavor.



500 grams ground beef or lamb

1 small onion grated

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp allspice

a dash of black pepper

One tbsp oil

The soup:

I small onion chopped

1/2 cup rice

I tsp salt

1/4 cup chopped parsley

1/4 cup vermicelli noodles

2 cinnamon sticks

3 bay leaves

PREPARATION: to prepare the meat balls, mix well the meat with the grated onion, salt and the spices. Shape the mixture into small sized meatballs. In a deep skillet heat the oil and fry the balls over medium heat until they start turning brown. Move the meat balls to a cooking pot, add the chopped onion on top and stir fry for few mins until the onion becomes transparent. Pour 6 to 7 cups water then add the cinnamon sticks, the bay leaves and the washed rice. Cover and let it simmer for 10 mins or until the rice is done. At the meantime roast the vermicelli noodles in a skillet until they are dark golden then add them to the soup pot. Put the salt and parsley and let it boil until the noodles are al dente. And yummy for a hot delicious bowl of ima soup
